Introduction

Jealous King Leontes unjustly accuses his wife Hermione of infidelity and has her imprisoned, apparently causing her death and those of their two children.

16 years passes and their daughter, Perdita, ignorant of her true identity, grows up with shepherds and is courted by a prince. The prince's father (Polixenes, an old friend of Leontes)threatens to separate them and they flee to Leontes for help. The daughter is recognised and is united with the prince, her mother is discovered to be still alive and is reunited with a repentant Leontes, and all ends well.
