[[Janet Harris]] assisted by [[Kate Linnell]] took over the SLTC Saturday morning youth group from [[Mary Mawby]] and [[Mike Mawby]].  We continued drama exercises and worked on things like character development and more advanced acting skills.  A Brecht piece was chosen for our [[Prompt Corner]] annual production, and my reflections now (as a 55-year-old) is that my 14-year-old self didn't have a clue about the depth of "fear and misery" being experienced by the characters we were playing!  Again, there weren't many boys that year in the group, and my best friend [[Robert James]] and I ended up playing all the male characters.  We did the production in the round, with the actors and audience inter-mingling, which we found difficult on the day - I recall that for "The Bakers" Robert and I were supposed to be running in a circle round a prison yard, and had to weave our way around the audience members.  I think the subtleties of "the One They Let Out" were completly lost on me, alas.  This was the last production I did with the youth group; I don't know whether the youth group stopped, or whether I stopped going - perhaps because I was starting my O Level courses and was involved in drama in other places, such as my church in Streatham Hill and my school in Tooting.  It wasn't my last SLTC play though, which was to be [[Forty Years On (1980)]].  I have the fondest memories of Saturday mornings in West Norwood; by the grand age of 14 I was going to and from the rehearsals on my own.  [[Philip Parker]] (cast member)
